Description & Location
The Arabic translation for it's name is "between the mountains". Like other sites known by more than one name, Ben El Gebel is also known as Shaab Dorfa, Shaab Torfa and Torfa El Shait. This dive site is a long narrow straight located between Giftun Kebira and Giftun Soraya. It consist of several reef crescents that form outward from the north end of Giftun Soraya. This dive really starts at the end of the crescents near five ergs.

About the Dive
This site lies near the lagoon so even if the winds are strong, once there the surrounding waters are usually calm. Expect to encounter currents through the channel area which are usually present. Start this dive by exiting the channel at about 8 meters. For a more relaxing dive, don't go past the three nearest ergs. Look for nice gorgonians on the north end. If you're wanted to venture out a little further, continue out to the furthest erg. There are some impressive overhangs with colonies of glassfish worth seeing but take care not to go to far into the straight and get lost. This has happened before where divers had to surface and make a long surface swim back.

Reef Life & Special Interests
Some of the marine life you may encounter are emperor angels, clownfish, yellow spine tang, napoleons, painted triggerfish, puffers and snapper. Also look for glassfish and orange spot jacks under the overhangs. Occasionally white tip shark, barracuda and eagle rays pass by.
